About the game

Kryat was a second-year university project, made as part of a team. It is an adventure card game: players capture creatures to gain dice, and those dice are what they use to battle the grand beasts.

I was the team’s art director and made all of the artwork in the game — this page collects that work. By the end we produced a physical deck of cards, every one of them printed with these designs.

Creatures

Ten painted creatures, each designed to work as a card — a clear silhouette that survives being reduced to hand size, and a palette that stays distinct from the nine others it will be sitting beside on a table.

Backgrounds

Seven painted environments giving the creatures somewhere to be from. They set the world’s range — what its landscapes look like and how far the deck can travel before it stops feeling like one place.
